First meeting of the H2MAC project
The launch of the project “H2MAC – Hydrogen fuel cell electric non-road mobile MAChinery for Mining And Construction: An innovative, efficient, scalable, silent and modular power-train concept” took place on 23 January 2024 at the facilities of the Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the entities that make up the Consortium, coordinated by ITA and composed of R&D organisations, component manufacturers, machinery manufacturers and associations that will help communication, dissemination and exploitation through standardisation:
- INSTITUTO TECNOLÓGICO DE ARAGÓN ITA (Spain)
- ANMOPYC – ASOCIACION ESPAÑOLA DE FABRICANTES EXPORTADORES DE MAQUINARIA PARA CONSTRUCCION, OBRAS PUBLICAS PUBLICAS Y MINERIA (Spain)
- FOUNDATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW HYDROGEN TECHNOLOGIES IN ARAGON(Spain)
- TALLERES ZB S.A. (Spain)
- HIDROMEK-HYDROLIK VE MEKANIK MAKINA IMALAT SANAYI VE TICARET ANONIM SIRKETI (Turkey)
- BALLARD POWER SYSTEMS EUROPE (Denmark)
- MANN + HUMMEL GMBH (Germany)
- TAMPERE UNIVERSITY (Finland)
The day was divided into two parts. During the morning session, the meetings to launch the project activities took place, together with the interventions of the Project Officer (Pietro Caloprisco) and the Financial Officer (Antonio Requena), both members of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership. In the afternoon, the Consortium visited the MANN-HUMMEL facilities in Zaragoza.
The concept/objectives of the project:
In H2MAC, two hydrogen fuel cell powered electric machines (FCEV) will be designed and manufactured. In particular, an excavator and a crusher for the construction and mining sector. The machines selected for the project will demonstrate a scalable modular solution, as the excavator will consist of one 120 kW module, and the crusher will enhance the concept by using two modules to expand the power to 240 kW. The operation of the machines is also complementary, as the excavator has a load profile derived from its movement during operation, while the crusher is a more static machine when in operation. During the last stage of the project (2027), the two machines will be demonstrated simultaneously for 1,000 hours in a single real-world environment (quarry in Arcos de la Frontera, Cadiz).
H2MAC was the awarded proposal in the call “HORIZON-JTI-CLEANH2-2023-03-01: Real environment demonstration of Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM) (Clean Hydrogen Partnership, Call 2023)” and has a total budget of 6.3 M€ of which 4.9 M€ will be funded by Clean Hydrogen Partnership and its members, under the Grant Agreement No. 101137786.
