H2MAC project showcases its latest developments at the European Hydrogen Energy Conference 2026
The H2MAC project continues to make significant strides in the decarbonization of heavy-duty transport, recently showcasing its latest developments at the European Hydrogen Energy Conference (EHEC 2026) held in Seville, Spain, from March 11th to 13th. Two members of the project team (María García Camprubí and Isabel Echeverribar) attended this event to present a key contribution titled: “Virtual Sensorization for Fast Refueling of Compressed Hydrogen Tanks.”
This work, developed within the framework of Task 2.6, addresses one of the most critical bottlenecks in hydrogen mobility: the thermal limitations that slow down the refueling process for heavy-duty vehicles. By utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and hybrid methodologies, the project has developed “virtual sensors” capable of characterizing the internal thermal-fluid dynamics of hydrogen tanks and it is still working to develop real-time tools. This innovation allows for the definition of more accurate, less conservative, and highly efficient filling protocols, ensuring that high-capacity tanks can be refilled quickly and safely without the excessive costs associated with hydrogen precooling.
The conference was a resounding success, bringing together approximately 2,000 professionals from across the globe, representing diverse fields within the hydrogen value chain. For the H2MAC team, the event served as a premier platform to promote the project’s mission, disseminate technical results and gather innovative ideas.
