INTERMAT hosts a meeting of the European H2MAC project

The members of the H2MAC European project met on 25 April at INTERMAT 2024, the international show for sustainable construction solutions and technologies that took place from 24 to 27 April at Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition centre.

The representatives of the entities that make up the Consortium (ANMOPYC, BALLARD, FHa, HIDROMEK, ITA, MANN+HUMMEL, TAU, and ZB) attended the meetings of the general assembly, the technical committee and the management committee of the project in order to carry out a technical follow-up of the progress of the project and to plan the next actions to continue advancing in its objectives.

H2MAC is an innovative project that aims to design and demonstrate a new modular and scalable hydrogen-fuel cell electric powertrain concept in non-road mobile machines for construction and mining applications. At H2MAC, an excavator and shredder will be designed to integrate the new FCE powertrain and related subsystems and will demonstrate their performance and reliability in real working conditions for 1000 h in a quarry.

H2MAC was the winning proposal in the call “HORIZON-JTI-CLEANH2-2023-03-01: Real environment demonstration of Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM)”. It has a budget of 6,3 M€, of which 4,9 M€ will be financed by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and its members (Grant Agreement No. 101137786).

INTERMAT was a perfect setting to hold the project meeting, given that ANMOPYC and HIDROMEK were participating in the show as exhibitors. HIDROMEK, with an outdoor stand of 800 m2, showcased its most innovative models of wheeled and tracked excavators, wheel loaders, backhoes and motor graders. Thus, the project partners were able to learn in detail about the design and operation of one of the project machines.

In addition, for the first time, INTERMAT featured an area dedicated to new technologies and energy, showcasing a range of equipment and technologies aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the construction sector, including a prototype articulated dump truck and a portable hydrogen fuel cell generator, as well as several hydrogen internal combustion engines. This presence confirms that hydrogen is expected to play an increasingly important role in the decarbonisation of the construction sector.
